The one thing that Dr. Basil Skinner and Dr. Aneeta Skinner wanted from us was to grant their daughter, Sharon’s wish of a fairy tale wedding. Based in the UK, the Skinners did not want to miss out on the grandeur of an Indian wedding. This is why even though Sharon and her groom, Nikolaus already had a civilian wedding in the UK and a church wedding in Austria, they reached out to us to add in the hint of Indian-ness to their big day.

The Skinner parents wrote to us and asked us for the details on shoots, products, and some sample pictures for reference. When they were satisfied, they flew down from the UK to meet us and finalize the venue. Taj Kovalam was chosen as where the magic would happen, and all those magical memories would be locked up in the photographs.

The event was supposed to be a two-day destination event with sangeet and mehndi on the first day and the wedding reception on the second. We had to plan out everything- what will be shot, how will it be shot, what are her expectations, and even the small sneak peeks that she and Nickolas would give us into their lives amidst the festivities.

Their story is as beautiful and as fairy-tale-like as their wedding was! The bride, Sharon, is an Indian-born, pampered, loved daughter and is brought up in the UK. The groom, Nikolaus, is originally from Austria. The love birds first met at an official gathering, and it is there where they exchanged eyes. Something stirred in their hearts that day that kept brewing slowly, and over time, they realized that they were indeed in love with each other.
Some stories already are so beautiful, and we only frame through our lens- the love story of Sharon and Nikolaus was one of them.

The Venue:

Vivanta by Taj Kovalam is an idyllic setting for those who want to be surrounded by the magnificent beauty of Kerala, including the beach and the lagoon on either side. Everyone who sets foot in this venue is elevated to a sublime environment as the aura of this place is serene and pious with its lush greenery and waters.

The venue is decently large to accommodate all the guests who had graced the wedding with their presence. Day 1, Mehndi and Sangeet, was organized at the beachside venue with the waves and breeze. Day 2, the wedding reception, was held on the lawn facing the lagoon with its lush green scenic beauty.

On the wedding day, Nikolaus arrived on a majestic elephant accompanied by Chendamelam. His entry was just as royal as they had wished it to be. Nikolaus, as Sharon says, “Looked like an absolute Maharaja in his Shervani”. Sharon’s younger brother received the groom with all honor, and they waited together to receive Sharon.

Sharon arrived at the venue in a beautifully decorated boat through the lake. Her entry left everyone in awe of her beauty. Adhering to the Indian traditions, Sharon chose to wear a ghagra-choli for both ceremonies.

The fireworks around them were dulled by the spark in the eyes of Nikolaus and Sharon when they saw each other. Music and dance added to the element of sublimity in the environment. The bride and the groom were accompanied to the Mandap by classical dancers who made the scene look no less than a fairy tale with their elaborate costumes and gentle mudras. At the graciously decorated Mandap, a priest summoned their wedding. Indeed, the wedding of Sharon and Nikolaus was filled with emotions and beautiful moments that we were able to capture through our lens successfully.
